Central Valley Football Team

Central Valley football had a tremendous football season.  This past Saturday they defeated West Allegheny for the AAA WPIAL championship at Heinz Field. As good as they were this year on the field it was their focus and commitment to excellence off the field that made this team so special.

This past summer James Deep reached out to FCA Director Denny Hyland saying God had really put it on his heart to be explore being involved with FCA.  After discussing the different ways FCA works on campus, James decided to approach Head Coach Mark Lyons to discuss how FCA might have an impact for this athletes this season. Coach Lyons was gracious enough to allow James an opportunity to conduct a voluntary FCA team study.

A former coach with a state basketball championship under his belt and heart for Christ, James was the perfect man for the job. The FCA team study was established with approximately 25 players and coaches meeting each week to study God’s word.

One of FCA's core values is service. This Thanksgiving Central Valley football team raised $400 dollars for the KDKA Turkey Fund to help feed the less fortunate.

The team even created their own“ALL IN” t-shirts. Below is a picture of Central Valley's FCA team study. What a testament to the influence one coach and a servant of God can make to affect a team and it's community! Hats off CV-GOD’S SMILING on your program!

Upcoming Events

This past May Mars HS lacrosse player Zac Sicher had an opportunity to attend FCA Leadership Camp in North Bay, MD. It was there that he had a chance to meet other huddle leaders across the Mid Atlantic Region and to be trained by FCA staff on how to start a huddle.

In September, Zac and some of the other athletes launched FCA at Mars HS. The second huddle had 25 athletes in attendance. This fall they had a bonfire outreach event where former Pittsburgh Steeler Steve Avery spoke to the athletes in attendance.

Congratulations to Zac and the students at Mars HS for making an impact at their school and in their community through FCA.
